Even as Virat Kohli, the former Indian cricket team captain turns 34 on Saturday (November 05), a barrage of birthday wishes flood social media with fans wishing their all-time favourite cricketer.
Kohli, who shot to fame after leading India to glory in the Under-19 World Cup at Kuala Lumpur in 2008, is a fitness icon. Known for his disciplined training regime and strict diet, Kohli has been an inspiration for the young generation.

Decoding Kohli’s diet

It is a well-known fact that Kohli is a true-blue Delhi boy who loves eating chole bhature and butter chicken, but according to his trainers, the champion cricketer does not indulge in fried and high-calorie food at all.

Also, Kohli has turned into a pure vegetarian courtesy of his wife and actor Anushka Sharma.

According to several reports, Kohli’s daily diet is a healthy balance of leafy veggies and greens, a side of protein, antioxidant-rich drinks, coffee, and lentils.

Kohli had once shared that he liked eating eggs for breakfast, but since he turned vegetarian, he has been gorging on seasonal fruits, nuts, and gluten-free pieces of bread.

To bulk up and build muscles, Kohli adds some form of protein for dinner that includes quinoa, dosas, dals, and spinach. He also loves having nut butter, vegetable broths, smoothies, soya and protein shakes and prefers carrying his food when he’s traveling.

According to his nutritionists, Kohli loves eating chocolate brownies and indulges in the sweet dessert once in a while, but not without balancing it out with an extra hour in the gym.

Fitness mantra

Virat, who was chubby as a child, has had quite a transformation when it comes to fitness levels. He has admitted in various interviews that it was quite difficult for him to become healthy and ignore cravings in the initial days, but turnaround results have been worth all the sacrifices.

Kohli regularly shares his impressive workouts with his fans on social media. From deadlifts to heavy-dose cardio, the cricketer does it all. According to media reports, Kohli’s workout includes a powerful combination of weights and cardio exercises which help him build lean and strong muscles, good body strength and stamina, and tone lower body muscles.
